Not everyone wants to be lifted

I used to spend my energy trying to move people forward.

Showing them what they could be doing. What they were capable of. What I could see from where I was standing.

Some of them did not want it. Not out of laziness. They were genuinely fine where they were.

It took me a long time to hear that as an answer instead of an obstacle.

Wanting more for someone is still wanting something for them. It is not the same as helping them.

Now I put that energy where it was always meant to go.

And I let people be where they are.
